430 acres of headwater woodland acquired and restored, owned by Worcester County and managed by MCBP.
The work
Protecting headwaters — the lands and water at the top of a watershed — is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect water quality downstream.
Holly Grove swamp, the headwaters of Ayres Creek, contains hundreds of acres of contiguous woodland and is the last large contiguous woodland remaining adjacent to Ocean City. MCBP, Worcester County and the state of Maryland worked together to acquire and restore the 430-acre preserve on Assateague Road. The property is owned by Worcester County and managed by MCBP.
