About the program

How it works

Marine debris in the Coastal Bays is a mix of everyday litter carried by stormwater and lost fishing gear, especially derelict crab pots that keep trapping crabs, fish and terrapins long after they are lost.

The program combines organised cleanups and crab pot round-ups with prevention work: outreach to boaters and watermen, storm drain messaging, and reducing single-use plastics at events around the bays.

Your contribution goes toward protecting the watershed, its habitat and its wildlife — monitoring crews on the water, marsh replanted at eroding shorelines, and students in the field. The Maryland Coastal Bays Program Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; all donations are tax deductible.
